It is with great honor that I introduce the David E Norman (DEN) Elementary nomination for Teacher of the Month for October, 2020, Ms. Amanda Campbell.

Ms. Campbell is going on her second year with White Pine County School District.  Ms. Campbell came to us from the state of MIssissippi.  She worked as a teacher coach for the state of Mississippi in a position similar to our NNRPDP program.  Additionally, she had just won the primary elections for a seat on the Mississippi House of Representatives.  We are lucky and honored that she chose instead, to come to Ely, NV to help in our work with White Pine County students.

She currently serves as the STEAM Coach/Coordinator and Assistant Principal at DEN.  She exemplifies the values sought after in our District Vision/Mission Statements.  As the STEAM Coordinator she is not afraid to embrace change and is continuously seeking professional learning opportunities while understanding the messy nature of the change process.  As a coach to STEAM teachers and others at DEN she uplifts, encourages, and listens to issues, concerns, and helps find solutions when needed.  Staff are not afraid to come to her and her inviting personality have helped her fit into the DEN family immediately.  Additionally, through her skills as a coach she utilizes high leverage strategies and advocates for high student exceptions.  This brings a level of coaching to DEN that was needed in the area of student centered learning.  Finally, as the DEN Assistant Principal she is not afraid to gently confront those whose actions are not aligned to the district mission/vision.  She does this in a way that mentors and guides others in a positive way toward improvement.  She has stepped into the leadership roles not only at DEN but throughout the District as a member of the District Leadership Team, District Literacy Team, District New Teacher Mentor Team,. and extended her reach to include DEN STEAM Academy in the Governor’s Leader STEM Program at the state level.

We are blessed to have Ms. Campbell at David E Norman.  I personally am grateful for her and our school as a whole is lucky to work with her and glean from her expertise.  Thank you, Lion’s Club for providing this opportunity to honor her.
